lyrics

Prayer
Words and music by Malcolm Lucard

Lord save us from this mess we’re in
Seems there’s trouble among your favored children
Some say they are the chosen ones
Others say heaven is theirs alone.

They’ve got answers, they’ve got truth
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth
Half the world blind, the other cannot smile
Me, I’m just trying not to cry.

Lord save us from those who have us saved
They won’t be happy until we’re all in our graves
They say their’s is the god of love
Dropping fire and brimstone from above.

Blessed are the peacekeepers,
Blessed are the meek
Who was that guy who said,
‘Turn the other cheek’?
‘Let he who is without sin
Cast the first stone’
I got a feeling
You’ll be standing alone

Lord save us from those who have us saved
They won’t be happy until we’re all in our grave
Only then will we know paradise
Only then will we know peace

People on my driveway, save me every day
Save me with God or some material way
People on the television, worried for my soul
People on the telephone, trying to meet a goal.
Save me with convenience, no money down
Save me with a super store on the other end of town
Saving me inches, saving me years
Saving me with hope and saving me with fear
Oil of the serpent, apple of the gods
One shot at bliss, what are the odds?
Why do they save us? Why do they care?
The goodness of their hearts? They just want to share?
Maybe it’s me, the one who wants to save
All you poor people from the errors your ways
So I polish my trophies, notch my belt
If I can save you … I can save my self.

Lord please, hear this prayer
I know I can’t be the only one out there
Don’t want to be a martyr, you know I ain’t no saint.
Just wanna love my neighbors and get on with my day.
(Repeat chorus)
